The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Antiquities Museum organizes a competition entitled “Draw and Discover” for participants in the Museum Education Program aged 12–16 years old. The Antiquities Museum, which attaches particular importance to the Museum Education Program, presents this annual competition for the 7th consecutive year; in an aim to raise archaeological awareness among children and young people, develop their talents, and showcase their artistic creations.
The “Draw and Discover” Competition revolves around a well-known historical figure. This year’s round focuses on the Greek god of medicine “Asclepius”; one of the twelve Olympians worshiped by the Ancient Greeks. The Antiquities Museum houses a rare piece featuring Asclepius that was found by chance among El-Muhammara archaeological site’s excavations; the entire Collection is exclusively showcased in the Museum.
Participants will be required to draw one of the most significant holdings of the Museum, and conduct relevant research.
The Antiquities Museum celebrates the winners by presenting six valuable prizes: three for painting, and three for research. The competition encompasses two categories:
- Drawing: participants draw the artifact in question, focusing on its details. The image of the artifact is available on the Museum’s website (Click here to view the photo).
- Research: participants conduct an accurate age-appropriate research on the aforementioned historical figure. The submitted research papers must consist of at least six pages. An introductory online lecture will be delivered in order to assist the participants in their research, and its date will be announced later.
The competition is held from Thursday, 28 October to Thursday, 25 November 2021. Winners will be announced and awarded during an award ceremony.
Registration begins on Tuesday and Wednesday, 26, 27 October 2021 at the event coordinator.
