The Bibliotheca Alexandrina witnessed the launching of the volunteer program of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), which will be hosted in Sharm El-Sheikh next November. Dr. Nevine El-Kabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity, addressed the volunteers via video conference during their gathering at the Library.
On behalf of Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the BA, Dr. Marwa El-Wakeel, Head of the Academic Research Sector, inaugurated the ceremony, where she stressed that the BA had hosted this important event – which is the largest gathering for COP27 volunteers – stemming from its role as a national institution that supports partnerships with different ministries and organizations. She also pointed out that this volunteer work is a national mission for young people, as they represent Egypt before the whole world.
Dr. Nevine El-Kabbaj responded to the volunteers’ questions about the Program, and discussed the Ministry’s efforts in preparing around 1300 volunteers to organize the Climate Change Conference (COP27).
El-Kabbaj stressed that the volunteers will be present in Sharm El-Sheikh starting 25 October until the end of the Conference on 20 November. Additionally, she stated that a joint meeting will be held on 31 October, between the Egyptian Government, the Conference Secretariat, and the participating volunteers.
The event featured a speech by Ms. Chhaya Kapilashrami, Senior Director of Operations, Secretariat of the UN Climate Change Conference. The volunteers’ operational plan during the Conference was also presented as part of the event.
