The BA Alexandria Project organizes a lecture entitled “Construction Technology in Greek and Roman Architecture” on Wednesday, 9 November 2022, at 1:00 pm, in the BACC Delegates Hall. It will be delivered by Dr. Fathiya Gaber Ibrahim, Assistant Professor and Acting Head of the Greco-Roman Archaeology Department, Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University.
The lecture tackles the methods of building and construction followed by architects in the Greek and Roman civilizations, as indicated in their diverse architectural creations, which remain to this day a witness to the achievements of the ancestors in the field of architecture.
The lecture also sheds light on how Greek and Roman architecture were influenced by other ancient civilizations, particularly the ancient Egyptian civilization, as Greek and Roman artists were not isolated from the influence of contemporary civilizations. Among the topics that will be covered in the lecture are the methods of stone-cutting in quarries, the ways of building walls, pillars and ceilings, the types of different architectural buildings such as temples, theaters, etc., as well as the artistic and decorative elements used in various types of buildings.
