The BA Planetarium Science Center is organizing the Library’s Science and Engineering Fair (BASEF) for the eighteenth consecutive year, to foster innovative and talented young people at the pre-university level. It runs from Sunday to Tuesday, 12 – 14 March 2023.

This year’s Fair is held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), with the participation of a host of academics and specialized scientists and engineers who will evaluate the students’ projects, together with a group of professional volunteers in the scientific field. The major awards are determined by an international evaluation system that assesses the creative abilities of students, their scientific thinking, as well as their capacity for precision and clarity.

Around 170 students, aged 14 – 18, from different Egyptian governorates, are competing in this year's round, through their submission of 111 projects. The organizing committee will announce the winning projects in the competition’s finals, which will represent Egypt at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), held from 12 – 17 May 2023, in Texas, USA.

Regeneron ISEF is the ultimate international competition in the field of science, at the pre-university level. It grants more than 1700 students around the world the opportunity to gather, share ideas, and showcase advanced scientific projects, in addition to competing for academic scholarships and scientific trips. The competition will also allow students to meet and discuss their projects with international scientists and Nobel Prize laureates.
