Don Giovanni Opera Press Conference

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized yesterday, 9 May 2023, a press conference at Sinnari House in Cairo, to introduce the “Don Giovanni Opera” performances. Composer Rageh Daoud said that the “Don Giovanni Opera” will be presented over the course of three performances at the BA, on 18, 19 and 20 May 2023, in collaboration with Goethe-Institut.
Conductor Nayer Nagui thanked Sinnari House for hosting the press conference, as it is one of the most prominent archaeological sites, adding that working on cultural products needs great effort and attention. He also thanked the BA for its prompt approval of the project, which integrates the BA Youth Choir and the Don Giovanni Opera team.
Mr. Daoud also stated that opera is an art form that does not have a large audience in Egypt, stressing the fact that if certain factors, such as lighting, set design and dance, are combined, they can dazzle viewers.
Opera director Manuel Schmitt said that he is in Egypt for the second time, after his performance in Opera Carmen in 2021. He pointed out that he is part of an operatic multicultural production team from Egypt, Austria and the Czech Republic.
One of the main features of Don Giovanni Opera performances at the BA is that they are not merely opera performances, but rather an educational and developmental project for young opera singing students from Alexandria.
The BA Youth Choir will deliver their performance on Friday, 19 May 2023, at 7:00 pm.
