The BA Director Receives the UNHCR Representative in Egypt

Prof. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, received today Dr. Hanan Hamdan, Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to the Arab Republic of Egypt and the League of Arab States; Mr. Naoufel Tounsi, Head of the UNHCR Office in Alexandria; and Ms. Jasmine Fakhry, UNHCR Community-Based Protection Associate.
Dr. Zayed said that Egypt has a significant experience with refugees as they are integrated into Egyptian society, an example of which is Syrian refugees who have flourished in Egypt through their trade and projects.
He also expressed his desire to organize a conference on refugees to highlight their issues and the efforts provided to them by the United Nations.
For her part, Dr. Hanan Hamdan stated: "We are proud to partner with Egypt and look forward to further cooperation with regard to refugees in Egypt."
Moreover, Mr. Naoufel Tounsi stressed that he would like to cooperate with the BA in the future and hold events and activities for refugee children, with the aim of introducing them to the Library and its great wealth of knowledge.
The visit witnessed discussions on UNHCR's activities in Alexandria, the services it provides to refugees and the aspects of cooperation with the BA.
