“Echoes of the Deep: Historical Shipwrecks of the Red Sea” Exhibition at the BA

The BA Alexandria Center for Hellenistic Studies and the Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center, in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair of Underwater Cultural Heritage, Alexandria University, organize the exhibition “Echoes of the Deep: Historical Shipwrecks of the Red Sea”, on Thursday, 29 February 2024, at the BA Main Entrance, Hall of Fame. The exhibition runs until Saturday, 16 March 2024.
The exhibition will start with an opening lecture by Prof. Emad Khalil, UNESCO Chair of Underwater Cultural Heritage, and Mr. Holger Buss, 3D Modeling Specialist. The lecture will take place at the BA Main Entrance, Auditorium Hall.
The lecture will be open for public and Arabic interpretation will be provided.
The event will give visitors a chance to dive into the richness of the Underwater Cultural Heritage of the Red Sea by showcasing ten 3D-printed models of iconic shipwrecks in the Red Sea; the SS Carnatic 1862, the Kingston 1871, the Ulysses 1871, the Dunraven 1873, the Thistlegorm 1940, the Kimon M 1952, the Chrisoula K 1954, the Minya 1956, the Salem Express 1966, and the Giannis D 1969.
The exhibition will feature captivating photos for the wrecks and a VR tour for the Thistlegorm shipwreck.
The Red Sea shipwrecks provide a fascinating glimpse into the past, offering insights into the region's maritime trade and military history.
