The BA Launches the Grand Reading Prize

Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, announced the launch of the "Bibliotheca Alexandrina Reading Prize" under the theme "Live a Thousand Years with Reading.” He said during his opening speech at the BA International Book Fair, which was inaugurated on Monday, 15 July, that the prize aims to encourage creativity, develop the spirit of reading in society, discover young talents, revitalize the cultural movement in the region, and transfer scientific and cultural experiences to new generations. He also mentioned that the first edition of this competition will focus on the image of Egypt during the nineteenth century at the historical, human, social, and creative levels.

He stated that this prize will be granted annually and targets all Egyptians aged 18 – 40, pointing to its use of the mechanisms of the digital age to support the Egyptian cultural community.

Dr. Zayed also stressed that the aim of this prize is to "enrich the Egyptian and Arab cultural life through the pursuit of knowledge and love of reading." He also noted that 100 readers will be granted valuable categorized financial prizes at the end of the competition, and will be invited to Alexandria to engage with the Egyptian cultural and literary community, where meetings will be organized between these young winners and intellectuals. Additionally, he explained that the early stages will be held electronically to facilitate the process for participants.
