Exploratorium closes for Robo Alex Center inauguration

Alexandria, 7 April 2005—In preparation for the inauguration of the Robo Alex Center at the Exploratorium of the Planetarium Science Center (PSC), the Exploratorium will not be able to receive visitors from 10-14 April 2005.
The Robo Alex Center activities, targeting both girls and boys, aged 12 years and above, are compelling hands-on robotic challenges, guided by the PSC staff members. The assistants introduce the challenge, then the children design, program, and test robots on special playing fields to see how accurate they perform.
The children, working in teams of two, are encouraged to apply different strategies when designing and programming the robots. Through this approach, they develop: Team-work and communication skills; Problem-solving and engineering skills; and an understanding of the fact that there is not one “correct” answer to a practical problem, but a number of possible solutions.
The Exploratorium is a “hands-on” science facility offering a large collection of educational exhibits designed to engage students and the general public in science and technology.
It consists of:- Discovery Zone (Primary and permanent exhibition space)
- Workshops Hall (For specialized, hands-on group activities)
- Listen and Discover Hall (Multimedia shows)
- Multi-Exhibition Hall (Visiting exhibitions)
