The lecture will tackle Ptolemaic Egypt as an era where textiles, such as wool and flax, became motors of the textile economy. Producing, selling, and buying textile goods occupied a focal place in economic, social, and everyday life, which is evident through the fact that textiles and garments were the topic of much of the correspondence between officials and regular individuals. Consequently, the lecture will present textual evidence from the Ptolemaic era that reflects the role of textiles and garments in the economic and social life of Ptolemaic Egyptians.
The lecture will be delivered by Dr. Maria Papadopoulou, Marie Curie Fellow, Centre for Textile Research (CTR), Saxo Institute, University of Copenhagen.
