The Quality of the Cultural Websites in a Workshop at the Centre for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT)

Alexandria — As part of the cultnat’s continous endeavours to preserve cultural heritage, the crenter organized a workshop entitled Quality of Cultural Websites. The workshop, which took place on 3 and 4 April was part of the MEDCULT Poject affiliated to the European Union and funded by the UNESCO. The workshop aimed at improving the quality of the cultural websites throughout the Arabic speaking countries according to the MINERVA guidelines and tools set up by several cultural institutions in Europe.
Dr. Hala Barakat, was in charge of the workshop, stated that the workshop also aimed at building calibres of experts for cultural institutions to improve the quality of their websites.
Four speakers from MEDCULT familiarized the participants with the activities of the EU projects: MINERVA and MEDCULT; in addition to the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI). The workshop also covered IPR issues with regards to cultural websites, and offered practical information on the architecture and content of a quality and accessible cultural web site. The workshop gave special focus on the creation of a model website using the templates provided during the training sessions.
Museums, libraries, cultural and archaeological research centers and institutions in Egypt participated in the event that took place at CULTNAT premises in the Smart Village.
