Alexandria — The Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures is the winner of the fifteenth edition of the Leucosia Prize. The Award was established by the cultural/tourist association PRO LOCO “Santa Maria” of Castellabate - a village situated on the Cilento coastline (Salerno, South Italy). The Award ceremony will take place on 9 September in the park of Villa Matazzo, in Santa Maria of Castellabate (Salerno, Italy). Prof. Salvatore Bono, Member of the Advisory Committee of the Anna Lindh Foundation, will take part in the event and collect the prize on behalf of the Foundation.

The Leucosia Prize, launched in 1986, started as a local initiative aiming at encouraging the “Cilentani” – native people of the Cilento region – to promote their local tradition of living together in respect of cultural diversity worldwide. This year, the initiative has been internationalised. The Anna Lindh Foundation has been awarded the prize in recognition of its activities aiming at promoting dialogue, better understanding, and mutual respect between different cultures all over Europe and the Mediterranean region.

The Leucosia Prize has expanded its programme themes along the years. The Award has been given to individuals, private and public institutions, as well as to governmental and non governmental organisations. The Prize was made to honour their commitment and action that contributed to building up the European Union, strengthening a culture of peace worldwide, and expressing social and environmental concerns. The Award intends to reward not a single artwork or a book, but rather a way of living; a way of conceiving life for the sake of the wellbeing of the whole humanity. Among the winners of the previous editions of the award were: the Red Cross, the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF), the Lega Ambiente, and Mare Vivo.
