Celebrating the Centennial Anniversary of the Norwegian Writer Henrik Ibsen

Alexandria— Norway celebrates the Centennial Anniversary of the Norwegian Writer Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906). On this occasion, the Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism, the BA, the Norwegian Embassy in Cairo, the National Norwegian Opera, and Cairo Opera will present on 26 and 27 October a musical adaptation of Ibsen’s play Peer Gynt at the Sound and Light Theater by the Pyramids. The play is a Norwegian novel about a man searching for a meaning to his life until he reaches the Sphinx, in Egypt, who asks him who are you and what do you want? All revenue will be donated to the Cairo Children’s Cancer Hospital.

The BA in cooperation with the Norwegian Embassy in Cairo will organize a second celebration on 29-30 October attended by HE Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, and HM Queen Sonia of Norway. The celebration will feature an exhibition for statutes and manuscripts related to Henrik Ibsen entitled “Ibsen’s Women”. The BA will also organize a seminar entitled “Nora’s Sister- Freedom of Expression” discussing freedom of expression as one of the main values represented in Ibsen’s most famous works Nora’s Sister.
