While we did not order this facility closed, the recommended control
measures effectively shut it down until it was safe to resume operations.
Health department closure of food establishments is actually a relatively
rare event. Facilities are likely to be closed if: 1) there is evidence
that the problem is ongoing, 2) environmental conditions in the facility
are likely to contribute to disease transmission and are cannot be
immediately rectified (eg broken refrigerators, no handwashing facilities,
etc), or 3) an extremely serious or life-threatening illness such as
botulism is involved.
