Japan has the worlds highest rates of gastric cancer. Japanese salty diet has generally been implicated as responsible for the high rates of both stroke and gastric cancer. Early 1980s, we noted that the regional variation in gastric cancer was not correlated with either stroke or salt intake. Soon, we happened to observe a decreased risk of gastric cancer with high consumption of green tea, which is a very common beverage in Japan. I have been interested in reconciling conflicting matters. |
