- To identify some of the major ethical challenges facing medicine and healthcare as these
fields move to the Internet including areas needing guidelines and further areas of study
in Medical Internet Ethics.
- To distinguish several of the diverse fields of study contributing to an emerging field
of study--Medical Internet Ethics.
- To examine the ethical concerns and some of the new issues raised by providing medical
and healthcare services over the Internet.
- To recognize potential problems and repercussions that Internet users face if private
information unexpectedly becomes public knowledge.
Performance Objectives
- Improve the ability to critically evaluate how medical and healthcare services are being
conducted over the Internet.
- Determine whether online medicine and healthcare are being conducted in an ethical
manner.
- Recognize and examine the emerging field of the Medical Internet Ethics as a new field
of study.
- Render an opinion as to how doctor-patient, patient-provider, and therapist-client
relationships could be translated into practicing online medicine and online therapy.
- Identify several of the varied professions involved in providing medical and healthcare
on the Internet.
- Consider what behaviors and comportment should constitute ethical conduct for all the
various professions involved in the medical or healthcare Internet.
